According to a recent report published by the Arab Monetary Fund, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar were the most competitive Arab economies from 2017 to 2020.

In compiling the report, monitoring of the economic competitiveness of the Arab countries was carried out. It takes into account the economic and political measures applied by the state to develop indicators, expand trade and attract investment.

The fifth report showed that the UAE maintained its leading position in the overall index, scoring high for the developed business environment and infrastructure, as well as for the organization of public administration.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia came in second with strong performance in the general economic index, the external economic activity sector and the foreign exchange reserves index.

Qatar took third place, showing the best performance in terms of GDP per capita and inflation figures.

At the same time, four other Arab countries have advanced in terms of competitiveness compared to the previous period: Sudan, Egypt, Morocco and Mauritania. A few other countries outside the region also showed increasing numbers: Singapore, Malaysia and Turkey.
